Pain Panel
There are many genes involved in how a person metabolizes medication. This includes pain medication. If someone is a poor metabolizer of the drug they are taking for pain relief. The patient may not receive the expected pain relief from the medication. These tests can also determine if someone is a poor metabolizer or if they are simply not taking their medication.
CYP2D6 gene
• This gene is responsible for determining how a patient will metabolize drug medicines such as codeine and methadone.
CYP2C19 gene
• This gene is responsible for determining how a patient will metabolize drug medicines such as meperidine and buprenorphine.
CYP3A4 + CYP3A5 genes
• This gene is responsible for determining how a patient will metabolize drug medicines such as fentanyl and alprazolam.
